Shandong (simplified Chinese: 山东; traditional Chinese: 山东; pinyin: Shāndōng; Wade-Giles: Shan-tung) is a coastal province of eastern People's Republic of China. Its abbreviation is Lǔ, after the state of Lu that existed here during the Spring and Autumn Period.

Shandong's name is literally translated as: east of the mountain, which refers to the province's location east of the Taihang Mountains. The province is located in the lower reaches of the Huang He (Yellow River) and extends out to sea in the form of the Shandong Peninsula. Shandong borders the Bohai Sea to the north, Hebei to the northwest, Henan to the west, Jiangsu to the south, and the Yellow Sea to the southeast; it also shares a very short border with Anhui, between Henan and Jiangsu.

A common nickname for Shandong is Qílǔ, after the state of Lu and state of Qi that existed here during the Spring and Autumn Period.

Shandong Machinery Industry Association is the industry management mechanism of the province's machinery industry, under the Shandong Provincial Economic and Trade (now the Shandong Economic and Information Technology Committee),

The main responsibilities are: Association mainly based on government authorization to conduct research for the machinery industry, provide policy and legislative advice related industries recommendations; collection, analysis, publishing industry information; participate in and organize the implementation of industry standard; to carry out the country (territory) external economic and technological exchanges and cooperation, promote the use of scientific and technological achievements industry organization;

Shandong Machinery Industry have relatively complete industrial system, with a total of 14 industry categories, 30 classes, 1141 a small class,and there are more than 20,000 kinds of products. Agricultural machinery, internal combustion engines, machine parts, machine tool industry ranks first in the country, engineering machinery, instruments, heavy mining, electrical appliances, petrochemical general machinery, food and packaging machinery industry ranks second.

In 2014 the province's machinery industry showed stable development trend as a whole , above-scale enterprises above 10317, main business income of 3.098976 trillion yuan, an increase of 12.98% over the previous year; total profits of 309.211 billion yuan, an increase of 10.24%; total profit of 199.13 billion yuan, growth of 7.55%; investment in fixed assets of 551.702 billion yuan, an increase of 17.11%; exports of $ 26.507 billion, an increase of 11.3%.
