Qingdao's West Coast New Area will hold a forum to push for the construction of the East Asian Ocean Cooperative Platform on July 26, according to a press conference held by the authority recently.
The East Asian Ocean Cooperative Platform, proposed at meetings between members from Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and countries including China, South Korea and Japan, is aimed at creating a new era for interactions on the sea for these countries.
In 2015, a meeting was held designating the West Coast New Area as the headquarters for the platform, and identifying Qingdao's key role in its construction.
During this three-day event, an agreement will be signed between State Oceanic Administration and Shandong provincial government to formally initiate the building of the platform.
At that time, more than 300 distinguished guests will attend the meeting, including 70 guests from foreign countries.
The organizer will hold two sessions to explore economic opportunities for Asian countries in the age of globalization, and discuss harbor economy.
In addition, the guests can admire two exhibitions displaying culture, arts and commodities from the countries taking part. They can also participate in forums which will focus on marine economy cooperation and the role of technology in developing the ocean industry.
