Spain, known as the Kingdom of Spain in full, is a monarchy constitutional country located in the southwestern Europe. It is located at the junction of Europe and Africa, neighbors with Portugal which is also located in the Iberian Pennisula, is close to the Bay of Biscay in the north, borders with France and Andorra in the northeast, faces Morocco of Africa across the Strait of Gibraltar in the south, the territory also includes the Balearic Islands in the Mediterranean, the Canary Islands in the Atlantic ans well as Ceuta and Melilla in Africa. The country is a mountainous country with a total area of 505,925 square kilometers and a coastline of about 7,800 kilometers.

Since the prehistoric times Spain has been subject to external influences, in the Middle Ages there were a number of countries standing side by side and until the beginning of the 15th century single countries were established. In the modern history, Spain is an important cultural birthplace and in the Renaissance it was Europe's most powerful country. During the mid-15th century to the end of the 16th century Spain became the world's Sunset Empire which influences the whole world. Nowadays there are over 500 million people arouund the world who speak Spanish, making it the world's 3rd largest language with the most people using it.

Spain is a highly-developed capitalist country, it is a member of the EU and NATO, it is also the euro zone's 4th largest economy, its gross domestic product (GDP) ranks 6th in Europe and 13th in the world. It is one of the world's largest auto-producers.
