Cambodia

Cambodia, known as the Kingdom of Cambodia for short, is commonly known as Cambodia and is formerly known as Khmer. It is located in the Indochina Peninsula, borders with Thailand on the west and northwest, adjacent to Laos on the northeast, neighbors with Vietnam on the east and southeast and faces Siam Gulf on the south. Cambodian territory is plate basin and three sides of the territory are surrounded by hills and mountains, while the middle part is vast and affluent plains which account for more than three quarters of the total area of the country. Inside its territory there are Mekong River and Southeast Asia's largest freshwater lake - Tonle Sap Lake (also known as Phnom Penh Lake). Its capital is Phnom Penh.

Cambodia is an civilized country with a long history and established a unified kingdom as early as the first century AD. Since 1970s, Cambodia has experienced a long time of war. In 1993, Cambodia entered a new era of peace and development with the establishment of Cambodian state power and the realization of national reconciliation.

Cambodia is a member of the Association of South-East Asian Nations (ASEAN), with a predominantly agricultural economy and a weak industrial base. Cambodia is one of the least developed countries in the world.
