Sierra Leone

The Republic of Sierra Leone is located on the Atlantic coast of West Africa, it is surrounded by Guinea in the north and east, borders Liberia in the southeast, and its capital is Freetown. In Taiwan this country’s name is translated as the Republic of Lions, and in Chinese mainland and Hong Kong it is translated as the Republic of Sierra Leone.

Due to the rich mineral resources, Sierra Leone's economy is mainly dependent on mining, especially drilling which takes up a large proportion. One of the most famous is the blood diamond exploited in Sierra Leone.

Sierra Leone’s people live at a low level. The country was once the source of supply of European slaves and is now one of the world's poorest countries, whether its purchasing power, health and longevity or education are backward in the world, the construction is a serious shortage, and most of the economic activities collapsed because of the civil war. The war in January 2002 came to an end, with a large influx of foreign aid to help rebuilding Sierra Leone.
