Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka, known as the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka in full and formerly known as Ceylon, is a tropical island located in the Indian Ocean, and it is one of the Commonwealth members. Ancient China once called it the lion country, the division of the country and Sinhala.

Sri Lanka's economy is dominated by agriculture, and the country's most important export product is Ceylon black tea. The country is also one of the world's three largest tea-producing countries, so the domestic economy is deeply impacted by the situation of tea production. In the process of liberalization, the growth rate continued to accelerate. Sri Lanka’s biggest advantage lies in mining and geographical location: it is a gem-rich island, the world's top five gemstones production power, and is known as the "gem island." Therefore, in the early stage of the economy, mining endows the country with many advantages for its initial development, the annual export of gemstones can reach 500 million US dollars of export value, with ruby, sapphire and cat being the most famous.

Sri Lanka means "paradise" or "bright and affluent land"in Sinhalese, and is renowned as "Kingdom of Gems" and "Pearl of the Indian Ocean,", and it is considered the most beautiful island by Marco Polo.

Sri Lanka has a long history of international participation, it is a founding member of the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation, a member of the United Nations, the Commonwealth, G77 and the Non-Aligned Movement. It is currently the only South Asian country which is rated “high” in terms of human development index.
