Federated States of Micronesia

Federated States of Micronesia, an island country located in the Western Pacific, has a total land area of 705 square kilometers. There are 607 islands in the country, the island of Ponper is the largest island, and the capital of Pali Kil is located in the Caroline Islands. As one of the three major archipelagos in the Pacific, it means “small island” in Greek. Micronesia has a tropical rain forest climate with the annual average temperature of 26-28 ℃, and Caroline Islands is one of the typhoon sources.

The country has a large sea area and is rich in fishery resources, especially famous for tuna. Other food and daily necessities rely on imports, and its economy is extremely backward and heavily dependent on the United States.

The islands have been dominated by Spain, Germany, Japan and the United States in succession. On November 3, 1986, the Federated States of Micronesia attained internal and diplomatic autonomy. It joined the United Nations on September 17, 1991.
