Slovenia

Slovenia is a developed country in Europe, known as the Republic of Slovenia in full, is a member of the European Union (EU), the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), a Schengen country and served as rotating EU Presidency in the first half of 2008. Slovenia ranks first in terms of per capita GDP among countries with economic transition in South-Eastern Europe, and is one of the founding members of the World Trade Organization. The country is located in the southern foot of the Alps, neighbors with Italy in the west, is close to the Adriatic Sea in the southwest, is surrounded by Croatia in the east and south, and neighbors with Hungary in the northeast and Austria in the north.

Slovenia was an union republic of the former Yugoslavia before 1991. On June 25, 1991 it declared its independence. It joined the European Union on May 1, 2004 and the Exchange Rate Mechanism on June 28 of the same year. On January 1, 2007 it officially joined the euro zone and on December 21, 2007 it officially joined the Schengen area in Europe.

On October 28, 2015, the 70th session of the United Nations General Assembly re-elected members of the United Nations Human Rights Council, and Slovenia was successfully elected with a term from 2016 to 2018.
