ASEAN
Association of Southeast Asian Nations, is known as ASEAN ASEAN for short. Its member states include Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, the Philippines, Singapore, Brunei, Vietnam, Laos, Myanmar and Cambodia.
Its predecessor was the Southeast Asian Union established by Malaya (now Malaysia), the Philippines and Thailand on July 31, 1961 in Bangkok .
On August 7-8, 1967, the foreign ministers of Indonesia, Thailand, Singapore and the Philippines met with the Deputy Prime Minister of Malaysia in Bangkok and announced the establishment of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations by issuing the Bangkok Declaration (Declaration of Association of Southeast Asian Nations).
