Bulgaria
The Bulgarian Republic of Bulgaria, known as Bulgaria for short, is a country located in the southeast part of the Balkan Peninsula in the southeast part of Europe. It borders with Romania, Serbia, Macedonia, Greece, and Turkey and is adjacent to the Black Sea in the east.
Bulgaria has a land area of 110,910 square kilometers. In 2013, the total population hit 7,588,570. On February 27, 1990 it set March 3 as its National Day in memory of getting rid of the rule of the Ottoman Empire. On November 15, 1990, Bulgaria was renamed the Republic of Bulgaria. It was changed into a parliamentary system country according to the Constitution passed on July 12, 1991.
On May 11, 2005, the Bulgarian Parliament voted to approve the Treaty of Bulgaria's accession to the European Union. Romania and Bulgaria officially joined the European Union on January 1, 2007.
