Lebanon

Republic of Lebanon is located in the southwest part of Asia and the eastern Mediterranean coast. Lebanon is traditionally classified as a Middle-East country. The country's eastern and northern border with Syria and the south is adjacent to Israel (or Palestine, the border is not defined), with its capital being Beirut. Lebanon has a tropical Mediterranean climate, with its coastal area being hot and humid in summer and warm in winter.

Lebanon was once governed by Egypt, Assyria, Babylon, Persia, Rome and the Ottoman Empire etc, and in 1920 it was put under administration by France. On November 22, 1943 it became an independent Republic. The outbreak of a nearly 15 years of civil war caused serious damage to Lebanon's economy. Recently small-scale conflicts between Lebanese parties frequently occur, especially the two countries of Israel and Syria which share tense relationships.

Lebanon's main source of income is banking and tourism. Lebanon's tourism industry is well developed, with many historical and cultural monuments. Tourism and banking account for 65% of Lebanon's GDP.
