Azerbaijan

The Republic of Azerbajian, known as Azerbajian for short, its name means "the country of fire" and it is the "crossroads" of Eastern Europe and West Asia.

Azerbaijan is located in the southeastern part of Trans-Caucasus in western Asia, adjacent to the Caspian Sea on the east, neighbors with Iran on the south, close to Russia on the north, separated by the sea with Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan on the east, and borders with Georgia and Armenia on the west. Its lake shoreline is 456 kilometers long, Nakhitchevan on the southwest is separated by Armenia and is not adjacent to the mainland. In the Soviet era, Azerbaijan and Russia were the only republics that did not need central financial subsidies.

The Azerbaijani Government's strategy of revitalizing the national economy, with focus on the development of the oil industry, was very successful. The successful development of the Caspian oil and gas sector contributed to the rapid economic and social development of Azerbaijan. Up to the end of 2013, the unemployment rate and poverty rate dropped to 5% and 5.3% respectively; strategic foreign exchange reserves reached 50.032 billion US dollars.
