Korea


Democratic People's Republic of Korea (known as DPRK for short) is a socialist country located in the northern part of the Korean Peninsula in East Asia and it known as Korea, North Korea, or Korea DPR. The Workers' Party of Korea is the ruling party of the DPRK. It is separated by the military demarcation line-North Korea&South Korea demilitarized zone. It borders with Russia on the north, neighbors with the Yellow Sea on the west, separated by sea with Shandong Peninsula, and neighbors with Sea of Japan on the east. Its capital is Pyongyang.

The present-day socialist regime was established on September 9, 1948, after the Second World War. It has a territorial area of 122,762 square kilometers and a population of 25.15 million (2015). Korean national / Korean ethnic group is a single nation, with Korean commonly used as their language.

In 1958, the DPRK announced the completion of the socialist transformation of urban-rural relations of production and the establishment of a socialist economic system. In 1970 it announced the realization of the socialist industrialization. In May of1975 it became a full member of "77 group" and in August of the same year it formally joined the non-aligned movement. On September 17, 1991 it joined the United Nations together with South Korea. In July 2000 it joined the ASEAN Regional Forum (ARF). It has established diplomatic relations with 163 countries (including the European Union).

The DPRK’s first leader Kim Il Sung put forward the main idea of the national policy and the country was governed by the Korean Workers Party. Its political and economic system is dominated by the military-priority politics and sticks to the socialism. The DPRK pursues a foreign policy of "autonomy, peace and friendship" and advocates the development of its foreign relations in accordance with the principles of complete equality, autonomy, mutual respect and non-interference in each other's internal affairs and mutual benefit.
