Vietnam

Vietnam, known as the Socialist Republic of Vietnam in full, is a socialist country in Asia. It covers an area of about 330,000 square kilometers and is close to the South China Sea. The coastline is more than 3,260 kilometers long. It is a multi-ethnic country with the Jing nationality as the main body of the country. It is located in the eastern part of Indo-China Peninsula in Southeast Asia and borders with Guangxi and Yunnan of China in the north and is adjacent to Laos and Cambodia in the west.

Historically, the central and northern Vietnam has been the territory of China for a long time and in 968 it formally broke away from China and founded its own country. After a number of feudal dynasties Vietnam continued to expand southward, while dynasties after dynasties it remained China's vassal state. After the mid-19th century it gradually reduced to a French colony. After the revolution in August 1945, Ho Chi Minh announced the establishment of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam and renamed the country name as the Socialist Republic of Vietnam in 1976. In 1986 it began the implementation of reform and opening up and in 2001 confirmed to establish the socialist market economic system in the ninth people’s congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam. The Vietnamese Communist Party is the only legitimate ruling party in the country. Vietnam is also a member of the Association of South-East Asian Nations.

On March 31, 2016, in the Vietnamese capital Hanoi, the newly-elected chairman of the National Assembly Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan took the oath of office at the meeting site. The Thirteenth Congress of the Republic of Vietnam held a plenary meeting in Hanoi. In the morning of 31 March the plenary session of the eleventh meeting of the thirteenth National Congress took place in Hanoi, capital of Vietnam, Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan was elected as Chairman of the National Assembly and Chairman of the National Election Commission. Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan is the first woman in the Vietnamese Congress, and is also the first woman to step into the top leadership of the Vietnamese party and the country.
